What to Expect

Service

Our theology and worship are vibrantly progressive, inclusive and diverse. We have a simple Sunday morning liturgy that involves prayer, music, choirs and congregational participation and we enjoy thought-provoking sermons. Worshipping at Emmanuel is meaningful and rejuvenating.

Children's Time

We take time during the service to communicate the day’s lesson in an age-appropriate way with any children in attendance before diving into the adult lesson. Kids’ Church takes place after the service over Zoom after the service.

Communion

Communion generally occurs on the first Sunday of the month. Occasionally communion is served to us in the pew by our elders, and at other times we walk forward to the communion table to receive communion from the minister assisted by the elders. Children are invited to take communion. We also offer gluten free communion wafers as well as bread/cracker options.

Holidays

During Holy Week, we have additional worship services on Monday, Thursday, and Good Friday. Easter Sunday starts with a sunrise service in Waterloo Park, breakfast in the church, followed by a worship service where we celebrate Christ’s triumph over death with beautiful music, singing and prayer. On Christmas Eve we have a family service in the evening and a candlelight service that ends at midnight.
